Will Senator Helms Block Appointment of Pro-Pervert Ambassador?

Howard Kurtz, the media reporter for the Washington Post, has run a story about how hundreds of readers of the Roanoke Times in Virginia have canceled their subscriptions to the paper in protest over a series of articles glorifying the gay lifestyle. One reader said, "While it is bad enough that you obviously attempt to glorify [the gay lifestyle], publishing a photograph of two men kissing in a downtown Roanoke club was entirely out of line...Is this what we want our children to see. We're aren't talking freedom of the press here, but common decency."
Many of those outraged readers undoubtedly voted for George W. Bush for president, hoping to see a decisive break with the immorality and scandal of the Clinton presidency. And yet the Bush Administration is itself making several overtures to the homosexual community. The effort is apparently being led by Mary Matalin, a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney. Matalin hosted fundraisers for the gay Log Cabin Republicans and says those who oppose their agenda are "gay bashers."
Some reporters are covering this new "outreach" effort. Julie Mason of the Houston Chronicle says other pro-gay moves include a meeting between Attorney General Ashcroft and the Log Cabin group and the White House decision to retain an office on AIDS policy. Another example of this trend is the Bush Administration's decision to nominate Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci as U.S. Ambassador to Canada. Americans for Truth, a group that exposes the gay agenda, says Cellucci's nomination by President Bush has angered parents and children's advocates in Massachusetts who oppose Cellucci's ardent support of taxpayer-funded, pro-homosexual programs in the state's schools. More than 20 local and national groups have signed on to a petition opposing the Cellucci nomination.
As part of an effort to derail the nomination, Americans for Truth Director Peter LaBarbera said his group will be distributing a copy of the notorious Boston "Fistgate" audiotape to every U.S. Senator. The "Fistgate" tape -- produced by the Parents Rights Coalition of Massachusetts -- is based on an undercover recording of a March 2000 conference workshop about "Queer Sex" sponsored by the Boston affiliate of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, GLSEN. Three Massachusetts government employees led the GLSEN workshop -- advertised as "for youth only, 14-21" -- and gave "how to" discussions about homosexual sex acts, including the dangerous practice known in "gay" slang as "fisting."
When the scandal broke, Celucci refused to even meet with parents concerned over the brainwashing of their children. Last July, Cellucci also snubbed Ambassador Alan Keyes, who came to Boston to address a rally of parents opposed to the growing promotion of homosexuality to students.
"By opposing Paul Cellucci, we are sending a message to politicians that...it is wrong to promote homosexuality in schools and they will be held accountable," Pete LaBarbera said. "Gov. Cellucci has embraced the Log Cabin Republicans...and the result is that he refuses to publicly denounce an event where 14-year-olds were exposed to graphic talks about homosexual perversions."
The nomination goes before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, whose chairman, conservative North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms, could block it.
Another group, Public Advocate, has staged a "pro-Cellucci" demonstration by "Perverts for Cellucci," featuring people dressed in trench coats, dark glasses and dressed in skin-toned leggings. Public Advocate calls Cellucci a "homosexual crusader."
