The U.N. confirms: As of September 30, 2005, there are 356 U.N. peacekeepers from America (10 troops, 327 police, and 19 military observers) serving in 6 U.N. peacekeeping missions.

A total of 29 U.S. soldiers currently serving the U.N.

"Likewise, international organizations can serve the cause of peace. I will never place U.S. troops under U.N. command - but the U.N. can help in weapons inspections, peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts."

"The United Nations was not designed to summon or lead armies in the field and, as a matter of U.S. sovereignty, American troops must never serve under United Nations command."
