Author Caught Promoting Soviet AIDS Disinformation in Book on "Emerging Viruses"
Leonard Horowitz Duped on Forgery;
Willing to Collaborate with Farrakhan, Gadhafi. |
|
Author and speaker Leonard G. Horowitz, who claims AIDS was manufactured in a U.S. Government laboratory, has been caught promoting an old Soviet disinformation theme that has been disavowed by former Soviet and KGB officials.
Horowitz's 1996 book, Emerging Viruses, which is still being heavily advertised and publicized on Joseph Farah's popular WorldNetDaily Internet news site, claims that the Pentagon manufactured AIDS. He even claims the Soviet KGB found "evidence" for the charge. But the charge was discredited years ago and the Soviets/Russians repudiated it. In his new book, Death in the Air, Horowitz cites a forgery, possibly of Soviet origin, of a National Security Council document from the Jimmy Carter years to argue that the U.S. has an intentional genocidal plan to kill blacks. Horowitz told Geoff Metcalf of WorldNetDaily that the Bush Administration has rejected a United Nations protocol to the germ warfare treaty because it is using biological weapons "all over the place" and that one of them has made half the U.S. population sick. No evidence for this preposterous charge was provided.
Cliff Kincaid, president of America's Survival, Inc., and director of the Committee to Protect Medical Freedom, has sent a 6-page letter to Horowitz raising serious questions about his charges and asking him to retract or correct them. "The record shows that it was the Soviet Union/Russia which violated the germ weapons treaty and considered using AIDS as a weapon," Kincaid said. "The Soviets used the AIDS charge against the U.S. to divert attention from their own biological weapons program."
| What follows is the letter sent by Cliff Kincaid to Leonard Horowitz, his response, and Kincaid's reply. |
|
My name is Cliff Kincaid, president of America's Survival, Inc., and director of the Committee to Protect Medical Freedom. I have your book, Emerging Viruses, which is heavily publicized and advertised on Joseph Farah's WorldNetDaily, and one of your video tapes. Several weeks ago, I scheduled an interview with you on Chuck Harder's radio show while I was the substitute host. Your representative cancelled on the day of the show. So I thought I would present some of my questions in writing.
In a news release dated July 8 from your publishing group, it is stated that your new book, Death in the Air, includes information about the "intentional targeting of black Americans and Africans for population control, including depopulation, as is being accomplished by the AIDS epidemic today." The release cites the "secretly dispatched National Security Memorandum 46 to cabinet chiefs only" from Zbigniew Brzezinski, national security adviser in the Carter Administration. The release says, "This document, the most telling, authorized the FBI and CIA to initiate genocidal policies."
I regret to report that it appears you have been snared in a web of disinformation. And it's a very old web that dates back almost two decades.
This document was reproduced in "Soviet Active Measures. Hearings before the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, House of Representatives, Ninety-Seventh Congress, Second Session, July 13, 14, 1982." These 1982 hearings produced evidence that the document was a forgery, possibly of Soviet origin, designed to hurt U.S. relations with Africa. An analysis showed that one of the individuals involved in its distribution was a former member of the Communist Party USA who became affiliated with the World Peace Council, a Soviet front.
This document is an obvious hoax. It includes no reference to genocide. Rather, it outlines a bogus government effort to monitor and provoke blacks at home and abroad.
There was an authentic Presidential Review Memorandum 46, but it concerned events in Central America. This is confirmed by the Federation of American Scientists, a left-leaning group, on its Web site, in a listing of Carter presidential National Security Council documents.
I can only assume that you were unaware that this document had been exposed as a forgery. So will you now disavow the document and either withdraw copies of your book or distribute a correction to be included with it? I also suggest you use this opportunity to engage in a crash course on how Soviet "active measures" and propaganda activities during the Cold War had an influence on Americans.
I regret to report, however, that you are many years behind in understanding the Soviet KGB disinformation campaign.
Since you proclaim intellectual curiosity and honesty, I expect you will admit your mistake and get to the bottom of how you were apparently tricked and deceived. The questions that should be answered include:
- Where did the document come from?
- How was it presented to you?
If we can get to the bottom of this, another chapter on "active measures" can be written. You are the one to write it.
But even more serious is the claim advanced in your book that AIDS was manufactured by the United States. CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather reported this charge on a March 30, 1987, broadcast and was widely criticized for playing into a Soviet KGB disinformation campaign. It had appeared in a number of Soviet and Third World publications before Rather picked it up.
But you go much further than Rather, suggesting the charge is backed up by "evidence." In your book, Emerging Viruses, page 363, you write that, "For years preceding the end of the Cold War, the KGB gathered evidence, that Russian officials ultimately reported, suggesting an American origin of AIDS. Officials alleged that the AIDS virus had been a Pentagon invention - a germ unleashed for political purposes in Zaire." You go on to say that one Soviet official was continuing to make this charge in 1988, after Soviet officials admitted it was false.
Do you really believe that the Soviet KGB was in the business of gathering legitimate "evidence" against the U.S.? They didn't "report" any such evidence. They planted charges in a propaganda operation designed to conceal the hand of the KGB. This is the nature of an "active measures" campaign. The Soviets were very busy fabricating U.S. Government documents. A report on this matter is Soviet Influence Activities: A Report on Active Measures and Propaganda, 1986-87, published in August 1987 by the U.S. Department of State. The published hearings of the House Intelligence Committee are also very useful.
Ironically, your book (page 364) reproduces a Soviet Pravda cartoon depicting the "American origin" of the AIDS virus. You give "courtesy" credit to Covert Action Information Bulletin. In fact, you cite individuals associated with Covert Action Information Bulletin as legitimate sources of information on this topic. Yet this publication, according to 1980 hearings of the House Intelligence Committee, published a Soviet forgery of a NATO document as if it were authentic. Covert Action Information Bulletin was associated with Philip Agee, the CIA defector who collaborated with the Cuban Communists.
You dismiss the fact that the AIDS charge against the Pentagon was disavowed in late 1987 by then Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, who said, "No more lying. No More disinformation," in an effort at a more open foreign policy. But other officials also disavowed the campaign.
Your book carries a publication date of 1996.
- Four years before, in 1992, Yevgeni Primakov, former head of the KGB, admitted that "the KGB planted stories in the late 1980s which alleged that the HIV virus was the result of a Pentagon experiment."
- In 1992, two former officers of the East German intelligence service, the Stasi, published a book in which they described how they collaborated with the KGB to promote the AIDS disinformation, using Russian-born East German professor Dr. Jakob Segal. This is mentioned in John O. Koehler's 1999 book, Stasi: The Untold Story of the East German Secret Police.
- Former KGB officer Oleg Gordievsky admits the Soviet KGB role in spreading the AIDS charge against the U.S. in his 1990 book, The KGB - The Inside Story. Gordievsky calls the charge a "fabrication" that "also took in some of the Western media."
- The leading Soviet AIDS expert, Viktor M. Zhdanov, repudiated the charge.
Were you aware of any of these books, which were published years before Emerging Viruses came out? You note in your book that the CIA countered the Soviet disinformation but did you realize that several former Soviet or KGB officials had admitted it was a hoax?
In your book, page 105, you note an accusation that Segal was "probably supplied information by the KGB," but you don't pursue it. Why? Have you ever had any direct contacts with Soviet/Russian officials on this topic?
History shows that the Soviet AIDS campaign against the Pentagon was designed to distract attention from its own biological weapons program, which included the use of "yellow rain" due to Soviet germ warfare. Ken Alibek, deputy chief of the main Soviet biological weapons laboratory, discloses in his book, Biohazard, that the Soviets had explored AIDS as a weapon but concluded it was too unstable for use. However, he says they did add smallpox to their arsenal. The Soviets tried to cover-up a 1979 biological weapons disaster at their own Army biological research facility at Sverdlovsk, blaming the deaths on tainted meat.
Are you troubled by the fact that the Soviets were able to deflect attention from the Sverdlosk incident for more than a decade by "active measures" or disinformation programs from the KGB?
In his comprehensive book on the origin of AIDS, The River, Edward Hooper, asserts that Segal's theory about AIDS can be dismissed, in part, because Soviet official Primakov, the former KGB chief, admitted the story had been planted (see page 154 of Hooper's book). However, Hooper discusses the possibility of a laboratory origin of AIDS. (page 155). Hooper nevertheless concludes that "The biological weapon hypothesis is so vague, and so unsupported by historical evidence about the nature of the rumored lethal agents (or even the location of the alleged base in the Congo), that it is difficult to counter. Unless, that is, one wishes to cite the HIV-positive 1959 blood sample from Leopoldville…"
If Hooper, a recognized authority and researcher, ultimately dismisses the Soviet version of how AIDS originated in his 1999 book, why won't you?
You cite the bogus Brzezinski report as a "compelling" document that proves the U.S. Government has an "intentional" policy to kill blacks. The charge that AIDS is a plot against blacks also continues to inflame race relations in the U.S. Louis Farrakhan's newspaper, The Final Call, quotes you as saying AIDS is a "genocidal plot" against blacks (12-15-1999). The paper's on-line version carries a link to your Web site. Is this your official position? Do you collaborate with the Nation of Islam?
Farrakhan is a close associate of anti-American terrorist leader Moammar Gadhafi of Libya. Gadhafi (Kadafi) has recently been resurrecting the charge that the U.S. (in this case the CIA) manufactured the AIDS virus. Here is one such story about his accusations:
Kadafi Accuses CIA of Spreading Aids Virus
Panafrican News Agency (Dakar)
April 28, 2001
Abuja, Nigeria
The Libyan revolutionary leader, Col. Moammar Kadhafi Friday accused the US Central Intelligence Agency or CIA of being responsible for the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the world.
"The issue today, which no one dares address, is the origin of the virus; namely who created HIV/AIDS. The door is totally closed. Even experts and doctors present here in Abuja have not addressed that ticklish and very hot issue," Kadhafi observed.
According to him, "CIA laboratories had lost control over the virus which was tested on black Haitian prisoners. And it's not Kadhafi who says so, but this is a truth divulged by scientists."
He refuted "the notion" according to which the disease was caused by monkeys from Africa as utterly false and baseless". "Our monkeys have always lived with us while the disease only emerged in the last two decades. It's a recent disease that dates back to the 1980s".
To support his revelations, Kadhafi disclosed how health personnel contaminated 400 Libyan children with HIV/AIDS in the paediatrics ward of the Benghazi University Teaching Hospital (1,050km east of Tripoli).
"The defendants - one doctor and five nurses - admitted that they were separately requested by the CIA and MOSSAD (the Israeli intelligence service) to contaminate Libyan children", Kadhafi explained to the astonishment of the summiteers. (30)
Do you put any credibility in what Gadhafi has to say?
In an interview with Geoff Metcalf of WorldNetDaily, he mentions to you that the Bush Administration refused to sign a protocol to the U.N.'s germ weapons treaty and adds, "Hey, connect the dots." You respond:
"Well, they are using and deploying biological weapons all over the place." You claim "about half the United States population" currently has a "upper-respiratory infection that won't quit" because of a "targeted weapon" unleashed by the U.S. Government to wreak havoc with "people's immune systems."
- Who exactly in the Bush Administration is aware of this alleged scheme?
- Who developed this weapon?
- Why does the Bush Administration want to make half of the U.S. population sick?
Isn't it a fact that the Soviets/Russians have consistently violated the1972 Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention, supposedly banning such weapons? Ken Alibek devotes much of his book Biohazard to documenting how the Soviets violated the treaty. Citing Alibek and other Soviet defectors, the New York Times reported, "Almost immediately [after signing the 1972 treaty], Soviet defectors say, Moscow secretly redoubled its germ research and production." The Times cited reports that such research is continuing today. Alibek reveals that Gorbachev ordered a vast expansion of the germ weapons program even while posturing as a friend of the West.
In the same interview with Metcalf, you contend that Congressmen Dan Burton and Ron Paul are ignoring your allegations or not taking you seriously enough. Do you believe they are part of the conspiracy and cover-up?
You praise former Senator Don Riegle for conducting hearings into Gulf War Syndrome that turned up "valuable information." His report cited information that the Soviets were producing a germ warfare weapon called Novichok, leading to physical and health problems of the kind afflicting our Gulf war veterans, and that this agent may have been supplied by the Soviet Union to Iraq.
If you have examined this, please let me know where your findings and analysis have appeared.
Regarding the matter of contaminated polio vaccines, a legitimate area of inquiry and concern, you contend these health problems are intentional and man-made. But isn't it a fact that most of the early polio researchers gave those vaccines to their own kids? The early polio vaccine makers/researchers are certainly negligent for not looking for monkey viruses and not making sure they couldn't harm people once they found them in the vaccines. But isn't this an error of arrogance, callousness and carelessness rather than intentional evil?
Thank you for your attention to these matters.
Dear Cliff,
Thank you for your fascinating and challenging letter of August 19, 2001 in
which you raise several questions concerning the legitimacy of my
documentation, research, conclusions, and political orientation. I most
appreciate open dialogue with you concerning these matters, since they are,
indeed, vital to the survival of this great nation and all Americans.
First, again, I must apologize for the last minute cancellation of our radio
interview. I was simply unable to squeeze it in while I was returning with
my family from a work/vacation in Salt Lake City.
Now to the meat of the discussion:
You raise new information for me concerning the legitimacy of National
Security Memorandum 46, which as you suggest, I was not aware of the
evidence that suggests it was a Russian hoax. For this, in the third
printing of the book, Death in the Air: Globalism, Terrorism and Toxic
Warfare (Tetrahedron Publishing Group, 2001), I will add this note, but I do
have a problem with this supposition. That is, everything that the
memorandum states, Russian hoax or not, came to pass since its 1978 alleged
publication/circulation. How could this have happened if this was a Russian
originated document, unless they had great intelligence or a crystal ball?
In essence, the document, then, regardless of its American or Russian
origin, is contextually accurate, and it is this accuracy to which I would
like to address discussions.
Please consider first, how I think and how I draw my concerns and my
conclusions. I try to review everything that comes my way, and dig up more
in areas of interest dealing with every side of every issue. I feel that
this is only fair. Next, I ask you to appreciate my bias. That is, I no
longer see social/political or even cultural realities like I once did as a
left wing liberal from Boston. I now see, as I hope you might, a global
menace operating behind the scenes influencing every major government and
their intelligence organizations. Therefore, I need to filter through
propaganda considering its utility to the source, regardless of whether it
is communist, capitalist, socialist, etc.
As you may know, there is an intelligence/propaganda technique called
"blowback" that involves planting false stories in foreign countries and
then publicizing them as true in native countries. Your evidence concerning
NSM-46 may be a twist on this technique. That may best explain the fact that
the outcomes are consistent with American history. Much like the Report From
Iron Mountain that was first legitimately published by Dial Press, then
disqualified by government officials as a satirical hoax; or even the
Protocols of the Elders of Sion, which leaked out as a Masonic document and
then through the years was altered and demonized in various ways, and used
mostly against the Jewish people, I postulate the same may be true with
NSM-46. Again, I would prefer to offer this opinion based on the past twenty
years of decay within the Black community. Just as with the documents
mentioned above, all the recommendations made in NSM-46, seem to fit too
precisely to today's reality, to be simply labeled bogus and dismissed.
I will, however, advance your concerns in the third printing of my book
scheduled for the winter of 2002, if not before. In fact, if you don't mind,
I may quote you directly in this regard. Okay?
Regarding the source of this document, I received my copy of the alleged
NSM-46 from Boyd Ed Graves, J.D.--an attorney who is suing the federal
government for an apology on behalf of AIDS victims like himself. This
document was faxed to me by his staff in support of their complaint that
HIV/AIDS was created during the "Special Virus Cancer Program" (SVCP) to
facilitate African, and African-American, genocide. Mr. Graves believes, as
I do, the virus was deployed, most likely through contaminated vaccines, as
I advanced based on my independent investigation. My research and
conclusions were not based on the works of my predecessors, including Drs.
Cantwell, Strecker, Segal, or Seale, who likewise advanced man-made
theories.
I am not aware that Dan Rather advanced what you say he said. Do you have
the transcript per chance? I'd love to see it. I'll pay for it, if it can be
ordered.
I sense in your writing that you are a staunch anti-communist, and though I
personally find the practical outcomes of communism appalling, I feel the
same way about fascism which I evidence is taking over America under the
direction of certain globalists directing multi-national corporations. In my
writings, I'm not un-American, as you can read my favor of patriotism, but I
am extremely concerned about the degeneration of American social and
political systems, linked by numerous experts to intelligence organizations
and high-level officials that are advancing totalitarian policies. So when
you ask me, "Do you really believe that the Soviet KGB was in the business
of gathering legitimate 'evidence' against the U.S.?" The same may be asked
of the CIA regarding all the legitimate questions and concerns you raise.
Again, in my humble opinion, the reason that both sides cannot be trusted,
is that both sides are infiltrated by devil doers paid to foment unrest for
political, military, and ultimately economic gains by a select few.
I'd be very interested in reading the sections John O. Koehler wrote in 1999
concerning the 1992 allegations made by the Stasi regarding the KGB planting
the AIDS disinformation story. Again, however, we must consider the practice
of "blowback."
You mentioned several KGB officials that admitted the "fabrication." Indeed,
I am interested in their stories as well. However, we must remain aware that
KGB officials, like our own CIA officers, are "given information on a need
to know basis only." Thus, is it out of the question that these officials
might have thought they were giving true information that was really bogus,
or visa versa. This is, after all, how the Hegelian dialectic is effected,
which is the major way in which humanity has been put to sleep through
"cognitive dissonance." Consistently, such PSYOPS have succeeded
internationally.
Moreover, had these KGB officials been privy to the documentation that I
advanced in Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola-Nature, Accident or Intentional?
regarding Litton Bionetics and Dr. Gallo's activities during the SVCP, they
may have altered their admissions.
To reply directly to your question, no, I was not aware of these books or
statements prior to my publishing my thesis.
You asked several questions as though you may be suspicious of me for not
pursuing more details in this area of my investigation. You asked, "Have you
ever had any direct contacts with Soviet/Russian officials on this topic?"
My answer is, "No." My investigation involved three straight years of
library research conducted in six medical libraries and two public libraries
(New York and Boston). Had I researched in Russia, perhaps I would have
provided more, as you allege, communist propaganda!
Even Edward Hooper in his well-publicized and highly respected tome, The
River, neglected several important facts regarding this matter, including no
mention of my work whatsoever! So I suppose every author is guilty of some
amount of unintentional omission(s).
You professed twice that Ken Alibek is a legitimate ally of truth in this
field. As mentioned, my evidence argues the contrary. He is undoubtedly
working for the CIA, and thus, what he states in his book Biohazard, is
likely eighty-percent truth. As the Bible warns, "a half truth is a complete
lie." I found it interesting that the CIA (and CDC) drafted Alibek not long
after I exposed Larry Wayne Harris as a CIA counterintelligence
propagandist, and correctly predicted, six months in advance, his abuse as a
fall guy in their bioterrorism agenda. They brought Alibek in to facilitate
their PSYOPS required for this agenda to proceed as well. They did the same
with Richard Preston a few years earlier.
To put this issue to rest for those who have "eyes to see" truth, in my
latest book, Death in the Air: Globalism, Terrorism and Toxic Warfare, I
published the National Cancer Institute (NCI), SVCP progress report from
1978 that shows during the cold war, Dr. Gallo and others were traveling to
Moscow to deliver the most advanced biotechnology capabilities and viral
recombinants, including HIV-like cancer viruses, to the communists for their
use. So if it is true that the Russians were far more advanced than the
Americans in this type of research and biological weapons development, as
the CIA, Richard Preston, and Dr. Ken Alibek claims, and you apparently wish
to believe, then how come this document shows our top researchers bringing
the Russians our most advanced biotechnologies, even during the cold war.
The only explanation is, as I mentioned, there are shadow governors pulling
the stings on both sides of every political spectrum.
I detailed why I don't accept Hooper's simple dismissal of the American lab
origin of HIV in the May, 2001 issue of the esteemed scientific journal of
Medical Hypothesis, published Harcourt Brace in England. Their peer
reviewers asked the same question, and I put my response to writing there.
In a nut shell, Hooper's thesis neglected: 1) the entire SVCP, 2) the 1974
hepatitis B vaccine trial involving gay men in NYC and Blacks in central
Africa, 3) Litton Bionetics's contract that I've reprinted showing that U.S.
taxpayers paid $2.153 million annually during the early 1970s for the
creation of the never-before seen immunosuppressive
leukemia-lymphoma-sarcoma cancer viruses that they manufactured using crude, tedious, and risky laboratory methods that predated modern gene cloning and splicing biotechnologies, and 4) Litton Bionetics's contract showing they
were the primary suppliers of monkeys and chimpanzees for this research and
development, and that they shipped contaminated chimpanzees to Dr. Maurice
Hilleman, at the Merck pharmaceutical company, that he used to produce, with
assistance from the CDC, FDA and NIAID, 200,000 human doses of the 1974-75
hepatitis B vaccine that according to all the scientific evidence,
(including the 1959 blood sample from the Leopoldville study), was the
vaccine that triggered the international AIDS pandemic.
Read the scientific paper Dr. David Ho et al., wrote regarding the 1959
blood specimen, not what the media or other authors say about that primary
research. You will find, as is frequently the case, the spin doctors in
mainstream media altered the findings of the scientific paper to fit a
political agenda.
My staff will be happy to forward a copy of my scientific report for your
perusal, but I believe it is downloadable from our archive files.
I am happy to learn that the Nation of Islam's, The Final Call, a newspaper
that issues Louis Farrakhan's concerns regarding HIV/AIDS as genocide, has a
direct link to our website. I applaud Minister Farrakhan, and a half dozen
other Black leaders, who have grasped the truth about HIV/AIDS as a
utilitarian population control plot, and have the guts to say it. You ask
suspiciously, and perhaps a little prejudicial, "Do you collaborate with the
Nation of Islam?"
My answer is, "Yes." At every opportunity, I collaborate with any nation,
people, and organization to help warn people about what I believe are urgent
risks to civilization, and ways to prevent and treat such risks. If you, or
anyone else, wish to condemn me for this, than so be it. You can condemn me
for fostering a relationship of mutual understanding and interracial
dialogue with Minister Farrakhan, just as John F. Kennedy Jr. did in his
last interview published in George magazine bringing Minister Farrakhan and
George McGovern together regarding strained black-white relations.
Regarding my take on Gadhafi, I've never met him, never spoke with him, nor
been in communication with him or his staff, though I would not hesitate to
do so, under the terms I expressed above. I am aware that he, like every
other politician, communicates with a bias inclined to express his agendas.
In this case, as you mention, my work seems to support his agenda against
the U.S.
Regarding my statements in response to Geoff Metcalf's comments, obviously
you have not read my more recent books, either Healing Codes for the
Biological Apocalypse, or Death in the Air. In both, your questions are
answered. James Baker III-the president's choice to oversee the Florida vote
scam, and George H.W. Bush, the president's father, have both been linked to
Tanox Biomedical Systems of Houston, TX and their Mycoplasma experiments in
Huntsville Prison with Baylor College of Medicine. Mycoplasma is the most
important modern pathogen that I write about. It is a primary co-factor in
AIDS, Gulf-War Syndrome, and persistent upper respiratory infections that
have become pandemic over the past few years, in case you haven't noticed.
The Bush Administration doesn't "want to make half of the U.S. population
sick," as you question. The Rockefeller-directed population councils have
published their desire to reduce the U.S. population by half. What better
way is there to accomplish this than to contaminate people, then enslave
them with the use of expensive pharmaceuticals?
Regarding your note concerning Alibek and Gorbachev, you contend it is
believable that Gorbachev correctly issued a retraction concerning the
Pentagon's link to HIV/AIDS, but here you admit he was "posturing as a
friend of the West." You can't have it both ways UNLESS you integrate the
globalists' cryptocracy, and the oligarchy, which you either haven't done
for lacking knowledge, or for political reasons. Which is it?
"As you sow, so shall you reap." You're asking me politically sensitive
questions. How about you answering some? What is your political
investment/bias in your questioning of me? For someone who alleges to have
read and digested many books that deal with this subject, including my book,
Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola, and obviously filtered out my American
patriotism, solid documentation, and scientifically valid thesis, while at
the same time raising the spectre of misplaced communist sympathies, I have
a few questions for you. Have you ever worked for the U.S. Federal
Government insofar as Russian intelligence is concerned? Have you ever
worked for the CIA, NSA, or other organizations that may be functioning in
support of covert operations or agendas?
Getting back to your questions, I look upon Congressmen like Dan Burton, Ron
Paul and Congresswoman Maxine Waters with the same due respect I give the
three monkeys that portray "see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil."
My work is simply dangerous to their political careers and pharmaceutical
industry PAC contributions. In this respect, they are indeed, part of a
"conspiracy of silence," at minimum.
In fact, you are either part of the solution, or part of the problem. Which
side are you, and these people on?
I have not examined the issue of Novichok in Don Riegle's extensive report,
but it does not surprise me. The Soviets are as capable as the Americans in
advancing biological warfare.
Regarding the provision of contaminated polio vaccines by early
investigators to their own children, with devastating and often lethal
consequences, it just goes to show how gullible and misinformed esteemed men
of medicine can be. I agree with you, given what I have written on this
subject. I often reference Christopher Simpson's excellent work, The Science
of Coercion. These men, haughty scientists most commonly committed errors
of, as you put it, "arrogance, callousness and carelessness rather than
intentional evil."
You are quite welcome, and thank you for advancing several critical
questions in this important regard. I just wish more people in leadership
positions would take the time to research critical questions, and act on
correct knowledge, instead of bypassing hot waters to stay politically
afloat.
With your permission, I would like to post your correspondence and this
reply on our website at http://www.tetrahedron.org. All right?
My best wishes for you in your efforts to research, learn, and tell the
truth. I look forward to receiving your correspondence, and permission to post,
and/or publish, these communiqués.
To: Leonard G. Horowitz
Author, Emerging Viruses
It is a step forward that you admit being taken in by an almost 20-year-old hoax and forgery. This admission may greatly undermine your credibility, but it has to be done in the name of accuracy and objectivity. However. the rest of your response to my detailed examination of the flimsy basis of your charges indicates that you are on the road to being totally discredited if you persist in defending sloppy research and wild and unsubstantiated charges. It is not too late for you to reverse course and pursue an approach of complete honesty and integrity. If you do not, those associated with you, such as Joseph Farah and your other cheerleaders at WorldNetDaily, will suffer a credibility breakdown, too. It is, unfortunately, guilt by association. So I expect that WorldNetDaily will do the right thing and come clean.
You - and they -- owe the people the truth. You have a moral obligation to set the record straight.
You say you got the bogus Brzezinski document and simply reported it. Do you accept as legitimate anything that simply looks authentic? Is this your standard of proof? If so, why should anything you report be accepted as valid? I can only assume you didn't even bother to do an Internet search about the document or find out if the subject matter appeared on a public list of National Security Council documents from the Carter Administration.
As if this isn't bad enough, you attempt to defend your use of this forgery by saying it was "accurate." You have compounded one error with another. How do you know that? Where's the evidence for that charge? What evidence do you have that the CIA and FBI operations described in the document were actually carried out? You are simply making wild charges and assumptions again. You have no sources, except yourself.
You had claimed the document authorized the FBI and CIA to initiate genocidal policies. The document includes no reference to genocide. So what are you talking about? Did you really expect people to read the release and not check and see if that is in the actual document? Then, on top of this misrepresentation, the document turns out to be a forgery.
You say you were once a "left wing liberal from Boston." I see no reason to believe this has changed. Your book, Emerging Viruses, cites left-wing sources, including CIA defector Philip Agee's Covert Action Information Bulletin and even the Soviet KGB! Let me reemphasize that you report that
"…the KGB gathered evidence…suggesting an American origin of AIDS…"
How do you know this to be true? You say you never had any direct contacts with Soviet/Russian officials. The statement suggests you checked with the KGB.
It's an old story by now: the KGB spread AIDS disinformation against the U.S. This is not even in dispute anymore, except by you - and you continue to insist somehow that the KGB's "evidence," whatever that may be, was valid. Dan Rather of CBS News got snared in this, too (you can check the AIM Web site www.aim.org for many articles about this). But this was back in 1987! Your book was published nine years later, in 1996. I regret that I have had your book for several years but only recently bothered to examine it in detail. I was astounded.
I thought the evidence I presented to you in my letter would cause you to come around to the truth. But except for admitting being duped by the bogus Brzezinski document, it appears my effort was in vain. You seem to think you can continue peddling misinformation or disinformation and no one else will notice. But the truth will eventually catch up with you. You are welcome to publish this exchange of correspondence, and I will do so as well.
This cause - that of determining the truth about AIDS - is so important that your erroneous material cannot be dismissed. It must be addressed and debunked.
I repeat: several former KGB or Soviet officials have admitted the AIDS charge against the U.S. Government was a hoax and fabrication. You admit you were completely unaware of the major books describing the nature of the Soviet intelligence service and its operations. What books did you read during your three years of research? But then you suggest these former Soviet or KGB officials are wrong! You even try to smear Ken Alibek and others as CIA agents, without providing any proof. So they were telling the truth when they lied, and they were lying when they told the truth! Amazing. So the accident at Sverdlosk really involved tainted meat? Is this what you really believe?
On top of this, you suggest these KGB officials, including their former chief, were in the dark because they did not read your book! You have a very inflated view of yourself and your work. I don't know if I am supposed to take you seriously. Only you have the truth. How convenient.
Again, if you could fall for a 20 year-old forgery, why should we (or they) believe anything you have to offer?
Finally, when I ask for proof for your claim that the Bush Administration is using biological weapons on the American people, you refer to President Bush's father and others "linked" to a medical facility. What does this have to do with answering my question and proving your charge?
Your stated willingness to collaborate with Louis Farrakhan and Libya's Moammar Gadhafi speaks volumes. But do you really believe Gadhafi's charge that the Mossad and the CIA were behind the alleged infection of Libyan children with AIDS? If so, I will ask again what I have requested so many times - show me the proof.
Your standards fall short of those of the liberal left-wing media. Frankly, this is a major embarrassment for you. And if you don't recognize it, I can only feel sorrow for your inability to face up to reality. Perhaps you have a lot invested in these claims. I'm sorry about that. But it's not too late to correct the record. You have a moral obligation to do so.
As a journalist, media critic, researcher and author who has never been employed by or associated with any government intelligence agency (contrary to your unwarranted and paranoid insinuation), I believe that providing accurate information to the American people is a special responsibility. We should check our information. When we make errors, we should admit our mistakes.
I have a degree in communication with an emphasis in journalism. I have written for many different publications, including The American Legion Magazine, the Washington Post, Human Events, The Washington Times, Insight magazine, and others. My group America's Survival, Inc. has been covered in the pages of Investor's Business Daily, USA Today, the Washington Times and other news organizations. My books include Michael New: Mercenary or American Soldier, (with Daniel New) about the case of the Army Soldier who refused to serve the U.N.
My America's Survival, Inc. (www.usasurvival.org) has sponsored conferences opposing the U.N. agenda and corruption in and by government. We have published almost a dozen special reports on global issues. My June 20 conference through the Committee to Protect Medical Freedom, one of our special projects, challenged the government's AIDS vaccine program, its AIDS science, and the failure to address contaminated vaccines possibly linked to cancer and AIDS. I am proud to say that my credibility and reputation are first-rate.
For 20 years I have been associated with Accuracy in Media, the nation's premier media watchdog group. I understand the need to verify information and ask the right questions. We have taken on the Big Media in this country. I even wrote an article for the Washington Post questioning Rush Limbaugh's credibility when he got his facts wrong and made misstatements. In my work at AIM, we have challenged government corruption and the lies of the government agencies such as the FBI and CIA on Vincent Foster, TWA 800, Waco and Oklahoma City. AIM has taken the Independent Counsel to court.
You claim some academic or medical training, but your journalistic standards are woefully inadequate. The kinds of errors you have made would have gotten you kicked out of Journalism 101 in elementary school. However, common sense should have entered into the picture. You should have considered the other side of the story at some point. I hesitate to say that you are deliberately misleading people. However, your failure to come to grips with documented lapses and major errors in your writings suggests that you don't really care about the need to honestly inform the American people about the true state of affairs. So what does that say about your motivation?
I do not question your patriotism, only your intelligence and judgment. If I am wrong in this, I hope and pray you can correct your errors and apologize promptly.
Your innuendo that I am somehow a patsy of the government or its intelligence agencies is what I would expect from someone who realizes he is on shaky intellectual ground. This kind of innuendo is unbecoming and despicable. It suggests you are trying to deflect attention from the weakness of your arguments. Indeed, they are very weak, if not nonexistent.
As for me, I don't necessarily believe anything the government has to say. I am skeptical, even cynical, toward government. On the other hand, I believe America has (had) real enemies, and they are capable of spewing lies as well. Yes, I was and am an anti-communist. I make no apologies for that. My writings demonstrate consistent opposition to tyranny of any kind. I believe, however, that in affirming freedom, we should promote accountability, responsibility and truth.
Tell the truth. Expose the lies.
