It's True: Al Gore Really Won!
Hillary's Allies Run
U.S. Mission to U.N.
Washington, D.C. - Not only does Hillary Rodham Clinton have friends and associates running key elements of the U.N. bureaucracy, her allies are burrowing into the U.S. Mission to the U.N. This infiltration and penetration process has been facilitated by the lackadaisical performance of the new Bush Administration in putting conservatives into key positions of the State Department and U.N. bureaucracies.
In a direct slap in the face to the president, Secretary of State Colin Powell has himself declared that he intends to rely on veterans of previous administrations and will "keep the number of [Bush] political appointees under control," according to the January 23 New York Times.
In the U.N. bureaucracy, Hillary's friends and allies include Nane Annan, the "First Lady" of the U.N. and wife of U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan; Gillian Martin Sorensen, an Assistant Secretary-General of the U.N.; Carol Bellamy, the executive director of the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF); Mary Robinson, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights; Gro Harlem Brundtland, director-general of the World Health Organization; and Noelene Heyzer, executive director of the U.N. Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
Gillian Sorensen is the wife of Theodore C. Sorensen, the veteran Democratic Party operative who hosted a "Conversation with Hillary Clinton" on foreign policy issues at a special meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations on October 17, 2000, during her race for the Senate from New York. The appearance was instrumental in transforming her from an apologist for the terrorist PLO into a supporter of Israel.
At the U.S. Mission to the U.N., we cannot confirm that any Clinton-Gore holdovers have lost their jobs. In fact, reports continue to suggest that some have successfully made the transition from political appointee to career civil servant, thus guaranteeing that they will stay on in some capacity. Based on various sources, individuals associated with the Clinton-Gore Administration who are still in positions of power at the U.S. Mission to the U.N., or are representing the U.S. at the world body, include Ambassador James B. Cunningham, Ambassador Richard Gardner, Ambassador E. Michael Southwick, Ambassador Betty King, Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, Margaret Pollack, Peggy Kerry, Sharon Kotok, Sue Shearson, and Millie Harmon Myers.
In addition, Joseph E. Connor, the American Under-Secretary-General for Management at the U.N., is an appointee of former Ambassador to the U.N. and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. (30)
