CUT AID TO MARXIST MUGABE
Will Colin Powell Denounce
Hate Crimes in Zimbabwe?

There has been an international uproar over the destruction of Buddhist statues in Afghanistan. But many in the media and the foreign policy community have been curiously silent about the state-sponsored anti-white racist and terrorist campaign that is accelerating in Zimbabwe under Marxist President Robert Mugabe. On March 3rd, the Washington Post published a major article about the turmoil in Zimbabwe, but it conspicuously failed to emphasize the fact that Mugabe is clearly a black racist whose intention is to drive whites out of the country.

The ninth paragraph may help explain why the major media have been reluctant to tell it like it is. The story said, "Last month, Mugabe's government deported two foreign journalists whose reportage had been openly critical of his rule, and starting next week, Zimbabwe will begin to toughen requirements for reporters to enter the country." In other words, the Washington Post had better watch what it publishes, otherwise its reporter will get the boot.

Eight members of Zimbabwe's white farming community have been murdered during Mugabe's current campaign, and hundreds of white farms have been illegally seized. Some experts are saying that what is happening in Zimbabwe could easily spread to neighboring South Africa.

The latest victim in Zimbabwe is Gloria Olds, the 70-year-old mother of a white farmer, Martin Olds, whose death at the hands of Zimbabwean "war veterans" backed by Mugabe's North Korean-trained special forces was highlighted in a recent CBS 60 Minutes story. Martin Olds was shot, his body was mutilated, and his farm burned. The Daily News in Zimbabwe reports that Gloria Olds was shot at least 15 times, apparently by the same forces. In the 60 Minutes story, Mugabe said he would be happy if all whites left the country. "Good," he said. "They would make land more available." He said he supports the "war veterans," who are led by an associate who calls himself "Hitler."

Columnist Samuel Francis has said that he expects the Bush Administration to do little about the anti-white violence there, which he calls genocide. "Under Bill Clinton," he says, "the United States could find reasons to wage war against the Serbs, bomb Iraq, send troops into Haiti, and fight drug wars in Latin America, but there was no time to do much of anything for whites facing a racial bloodbath in Zimbabwe. Under both Presidents Reagan and Bush, congressional sanctions punished South Africa until it gave up white supremacy, but no one emits a peep about the genocide against whites that Mr. Mugabe is threatening today. It's also unlikely that the...Bush administration will do much to stop the genocide."

But the Administration could terminate aid to the Marxist Mugabe. The U.S. Agency for International Development says $9.3 million in foreign aid was provided to Zimbabwe in 1999, $12.6 million in 2000, and $13.7 million has been requested for this year. Secretary of State Colin Powell could also speak out on this matter. But he has already endorsed the holding of a U.N. Conference on Racism in South Africa later this year, which is designed to focus on white racism against blacks. (30)
