A Nobel Peace Prize for This?
The U.N. Record of Failure, AIDS and Corruption
As U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan prepares to accept the Nobel Peace Prize for himself and the world body at a December 10 ceremony in Stockholm, America's Survival, Inc. issued a fact sheet setting the record straight about the failures and scandals of the world body and its leadership. Cliff Kincaid, president of America's Survival, Inc., the leading U.N. watchdog group, urged the media to provide both sides of this controversial story. Kincaid urged Annan to pursue a career in television, such as a regular role on "Sesame Street," where he will appear early next year to discuss "conflict resolution." Discuss it with the people of Rwanda, said Kincaid. And then after that, Cambodia, North Korea, Iraq, et al (see story below).
- Iraq: Annan brokers a deal with a dictator, enabling Saddam to evade weapons inspections and reconstitute his weapons of mass destruction; Saddam emerges as a possible source of anthrax attacks on America.
- Rwanda: Annan, U.N. director of peacekeeping when almost one million died, failed to authorize U.N. forces on the ground to prevent the genocide. The U.N. war crimes tribunal for Rwanda has refused to investigate nine of its own employees accused of taking part in the genocide,
- North Korea: Annan's U.N. failed to force the Communist state to comply with its international obligations under a U.N. treaty to stop production of nuclear weapons.
- Cambodia: In a preview of what's to come in Afghanistan, Annan's U.N. peackeepers spread AIDS throughout Cambodia. The disaster is captured in the documentary, "And the U.N. Came."
- AIDS: Annan covered-up evidence of U.N. peacekeepers spreading AIDS throughout Asia and Africa. Eventually, the U.N .adopts a "condom-a-day" policy for its troops.
- Smallpox: Annan's U.N. fails to insist on an accounting for leakage of the smallpox virus from Soviet/Russian stockpiles. As a result, America faces a mandatory vaccination program using a dangerous smallpox vaccine.
- Corruption: Annan took possession of a new armored bullet-proof BMW car on November 26 for personal and official use.
- Featherbedding: While crying poverty, U.N. bureaucrats amass a $15 billion pension fund for themselves.
- Terrorism: The U.N. has passed 19 ineffective treaties against terrorism and can't define "terrorism."
Kofi Annan appears on Sesame Street

Kofi Annan has joined the Sesame Street gang for a show about conflict resolution.
Children will see the United Nations Secretary-General settle a row between Elmo and his friends over who should sing a song.
The Peace Prize winner suggests the puppets sing the Alphabet Song together, then takes part in a group hug.
Mr Annan also taped a segment with his wife and the puppet monsters, about the beauty of all the colours in the world and how well they go together.
He also offers Elmo a job at the United Nations. The fuzzy red puppet asks if he can win a Nobel prize too.
Mr Annan filmed the show in Queens, New York. He says he agreed to appear because "it is wonderful to be able to reach the young to try and give them the spirit of the United Nations".
Executive producer, Michael Loman, says the only other figures connected to politics to appear on the show recently were Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton.
He said: "One of the things that is truly unique about Sesame Street is that we teach children about inclusiveness. So who better to illustrate that point than the secretary-general of the United Nations?"
Annan's appearance will be screened as part of the new Sesame Street season starting in February. (30)
