Will Congress Bow
To Mr. Jane Fonda?
Anti-Christian Bigot Funds Pro-U.N. Propaganda CampaignOwings, MD, March 19, 1999:
Controversial broadcaster Ted Turner, fresh from insulting the head of the Roman Catholic Church, is secretly funding a series of pro-U.N. advertisements designed to con the Congress into paying a phony financial "debt" to the United Nations. In a major disclosure, veteran journalist Cliff Kincaid revealed today that the "Better World Campaign," which underwrote a national ad featuring former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and James Baker, is financed by Castro sidekick Ted Turner, known to some as "Mr. Jane Fonda." The ads, addressed to congressional leaders, call for payment of a "debt" to the U.N. that doesn’t exist. The "debt" doesn’t take into account the billions of dollars of extra peacekeeping assistance that the U.S. has provided to the U.N. without credit or reimbursement.
"It is time to tell the truth about who is behind this pro-U.N. propaganda campaign," said Kincaid, president of a pro-sovereignty organization called America’s Survival. "Ted Turner should not be allowed to hide behind phony fronts."
Turner, who says Christianity is a religion "for losers," is the subject of a Capital Research Center monograph (www.capitalresearch.org) written by Kincaid which exposes his $1 billion "gift" to the U.N. as apparently illegal and in violation of the U.N.’s own charter.
Kincaid noted that the pro-U.N. ads, which appeared in the Washington Times, Congressional Quarterly and Roll Call on March 18, were said to have been "paid for by the Better World Campaign." This appeared to be separate from and different than Turner’s own Better World Fund, which works with his United Nations Foundation. "In fact," Kincaid said, "the Better World Campaign is part of Turner’s Better World Fund."
"Why didn’t they use their common name, the Better World Fund?" Kincaid asked. "They are trying to hide their controversial Ted Turner connection. This is understandable, considering Turner’s anti-Christian and bizarre views, but the Congress should have the facts about who is behind this lobbying campaign."
Kincaid is the author of a Cato Institute report, "The United Nations Debt: Who Owes Whom?", which documents that the U.N. actually owes America over $10 billion. The report can be found on the Cato web site at: www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa-304es.html
