A Soros in Sheep’s Clothing in Trump’s Cabinet?
By Cliff Kincaid Conservatives in the MAGA movement reacted with horror when Joe Biden gave George Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Yet, they have applauded President Trump’s nomination of the former top investor for George Soros to be the Secretary of the Treasury. If confirmed, Scott Bessent will not only be a close Soros confidant but the first “gay” Treasury Secretary in history. A former supporter of Trump’s arch enemy Hillary Clinton, Bessent suddenly emerged during the campaign as a Trump supporter and has now managed to get Trump’s blessing and nomination as Treasury Secretary. He went from top investor for the globalist billionaire to advocate for the Trump agenda of nationalism, populism, and tariffs. Ignoring Bessent’s service to the hedge fund billionaire who almost single-handedly destroyed the criminal justice system and has funded the Democratic Party for decades, many conservatives and Republicans are endorsing Bessent simply because President Trump nominated him. They consider his conversion to MAGA to be legitimate. But it could be a mistake of global proportions. Many of the ways Soros made his money, through financial currency speculation and manipulation, were based on advice offered by Scott Bessent. The explanation for this bizarre nomination and conservative silence over its implications may lie in Bessent’s stake in All Seasons, a conservative publisher that has been very kind to MAGA, with several authors being either former Trump officials such as Peter Navarro or sympathetic to the MAGA agenda. Yet, the Tablet magazine has published a damaging expose about an alleged conflict of interest involving Bessent’s venture into “conservative” publishing. Under the headline, “The George Soros Partner Who Disrupted Right-Wing Publishing,” the magazine charged that Bessent “has a funny habit of signing big-name MAGA authors to book contracts, then suing them,” and cited the case of a book by conservative author Lee Smith that had reportedly included criticism of George Soros. All Seasons Press then published a rebuttal, accusing author Lee Smith and Tablet of McCarthyism. For those of us who believe that Soros needs to answer for what he has done with his billions of dollars, this is a major concern. In his Thursday appearance before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, he should be asked some other important questions, especially regarding his relationship with Soros. For example:
If Republican Senators don’t raise these matters, the hearing will be dominated by Senator Elizabeth Warren, a far-left Soros-supported member of the Finance Committee once praised by Soros himself as “the most qualified to be president.” Back in 2011, Soros even hosted a fundraiser for Warren and other Democrats. Warren sent a 31-page letter to Bessent, taking issue with Trump’s economic agenda, but failed to raise any concern about his relationship with George Soros. Republican members of the Senate Finance Committee are the following: Crapo, Mike (ID), Chairman; Grassley, Chuck (IA); Cornyn, John (TX); Thune, John (SD); Scott, Tim (SC); Cassidy, Bill (LA); Lankford, James (OK); Daines, Steve (MT); Young, Todd (IN); Barrasso, John (WY); Johnson, Ron (WI); Tillis, Thom (NC); Blackburn, Marsha (TN); and Marshall, Roger (KS).
