Dangerous Proposals
By Art Requena* As Americans confront the blatant illegitimacy and destructiveness of the current rogue government, they are beginning to awaken to how far government has strayed over the years from our most cherished precepts of individual rights. Patriots now endeavor a way out of this morass to a government based on our founding principles as expressed in the US Constitution. Several proposals have come forth purportedly to restore us to a Constitutional republic. Unfortunately, some of these proposals are quite dangerous to the integrity of the Constitution. One such proposal, allegedly for reform, is an Article V convention of states, which by its very nature, is a constitutional convention. It is being promoted as a way the states get to put forth specific amendments that would restrain the government. The argument is that it is narrow in its purview and, therefore, safe from a runaway convention, which could give us a totally different document. Nothing is further from the truth. There are no safeguards provided in Article V to constrain the convention from amending the Constitution beyond recognition, or from completely replacing it. The false assurances that the convention would consist of state delegates sent to propose specific amendments from the state legislatures is contradictory to both Article V and Article 1, Section 8, clause 18. The latter gives the Congress the power to make all laws that are necessary and proper to organize and run the convention. The delegates are most likely to be chosen by Congress. (Congressional Research Services April 11, 2014). It is not within the states’ powers to decide on delegate numbers or members. Our original constitution of 1776 under the Articles of Confederation was replaced by an entirely different constitution and system of government when the delegates ignored the instructions of the Continental Congress, which had resolved to hold a convention “for the sole and express purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation.” Both the Continental Congress and the several states specifically and expressively charged the delegates to the convention with solely proposing amendments. However, a small and influential group of men chose to ignore their specific and limited authority, and on the basis of the Declaration of Independence’s recognition of the people’s right to throw off one form of government for another, seized the opportunity to craft an entirely new constitution and its resulting system of government. Fortunately, these were men of wisdom, good intentions, and of moral character. They gave us our Constitution, which is now under attack by Communist and Globalist entities under the rubric of Article V reform. There is no reasonable basis to think that a runaway convention would not happen again, given the vast sums of money and organizational skills of those opposed to America’s liberty. Thus, Article V is being promoted in the media as a way to set right the wrongs of government. Unfortunately, the perilousness of a constitutional convention, or whatever name its supporters disguise it with, is being misrepresented by a multimillion-dollar funded organization, “The Convention of States Project,” as well as some individuals whom, undeservedly, hold the trust of many conservatives. The idea of a constitutional convention during this especially dangerous time when the population is ideologically split, would give radical leftists, communists, and anti-constitutional groups, including the current globalist-government establishment, too great an opportunity to cause havoc to our Constitution. Soros-funded groups such as Antifa and Black Lives Matter would most likely threaten and cower delegates opposed to their radical agenda. These communist organizations could hold cities hostage to their demands, causing mayors, city councils, and governors to add further pressure on the delegates to give in to the Globalist-Marxist demands. The Convention of States Project’s whole premise falls when common sense is applied. For logic argues that since the Constitution and its Bill of Rights have not been adhered to, new amendments will not be any more effective in restraining government encroachment. As constitutional scholar, Joanna Martin, clearly notes, the restraints necessary to reforming our system are already in our present Constitution. (See publiushuldah.com) America is on the precipice of a communist hell. Already law enforcement is morphing into something evil, something reminiscent of Stalin’s iron hand. The insanity of the moment is meant to confuse, discourage, and to defeat the American people. However, the Constitution, while shredded and ignored, still provides a beacon upon which patriots can focus and rebuild. Let us do all in our power to preserve this miraculous document and its system of government.
