The BuzzFeed article, "After Trump's Tweet, The Government Is Funding A Coronavirus Study Of Hydrochloroquine," says A North Carolina company known as PPD Development won a $750,000 deal days after the president’s "controversial statements" about the antimalarial drugs. In total, it has received $38 million over 12 months.
One of the company's fact sheets says: PPD supports about 80 active ongoing projects for: • Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) • National Institutes of Health (NIH) • Department of Defense (DoD) • Nonprofits and academia Under our prime BARDA Clinical Studies Network contract, PPD supports the design and conduct of clinical studies to develop medical countermeasures to protect against bioterrorism, pandemic influenza and other public health emergencies. Results are due April 21.
