Impeaching Biden Over War With Iran
By Cliff Kincaid President Biden’s war with Iran is illegal and unconstitutional, under the terms set by Biden for President Trump. “Let's be clear,” said Biden in 2020. “Donald Trump does not have the authority to take us into war with Iran without Congressional approval. A president should never take this nation to war without the informed consent of the American people.” But on January 22, two Navy SEALs were killed in a secret mission authorized by Biden and his AWOL Defense Secretary to seize Iranian weapons. Unfortunately, conservatives have failed to demand accountability from Biden over the standards he set for Trump. It appears that most Republicans have gone AWOL on the important issue of war and peace. Yet, this is a winning issue for former President Trump, who is quick to point out that Ukraine and Israel were not invaded when he was president and the shipping channels in the Red Sea were not under constant military attack by Iran and its proxies. It’s a simple question: why don’t Republicans apply the same standards to Biden that he applied to Trump? The failure to do this helps explain why the Democrats think they can sink Trump’s campaign through legal terrorism of the kind practiced by Jack Smith and Fani Willis. The Republicans play a namby-pamby version of politics. Democrats play for political power and get away with murder. The Navy SEALs who gave their lives were Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J. Chambers, 37, and Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram, 27. An August, 2023, Fox News poll found that only 2 percent regarded foreign policy as the most important issue of the campaign. In the wake of the Navy SEAL deaths, that number should rise dramatically – if the Republicans decide to make war and peace an issue in the campaign. They would be on solid legal and constitutional grounds if they decide to do so. Instead, Republican foreign policy “experts” are saying that Biden should do more – that he should hit Iran without any approval from Congress. The “Battle for the Red Sea” is underway and the American people have not been informed or given their consent to this war. When was a war with Iran over commercial shipping ever declared by the U.S. Congress? Why are Navy SEALs dying to protect commercial cargo that makes money for multi-national conglomerates? With foreign wars accelerating, including Iran and Pakistan exchanging military strikes, the world is going through more conflict and chaos. Yet Nikki Haley claims Trump produces "chaos” in world affairs. In addition to the deaths of the Navy SEALs, Biden launched what the Pentagon called “joint strikes” in response to “a series of attacks launched by the Iran-backed group [the Houthis] against commercial ships operating in the Red Sea.” Our so-called ally in this endeavor was the United Kingdom “with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands.” That is the modern-day “Coalition of the Willing,” amounting to not very much. I say: let loose the left-wingers on their president Joe Biden. Consider the views of Marjorie Cohn, professor emerita at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and a former president of the National Lawyers Guild, who argues that Biden’s war on Iran and Iran-backed groups is illegal by violating the U.S. War Powers Resolution. “Although the U.S. began bombing Yemen in October, Biden did not formally advise Congress until January 12,” notes Cohn. A letter is not sufficient when American lives are at stake. I usually don’t cite the views of left-wing lawyers, but I think she makes a convincing rationale for Biden’s impeachment over the illegal and unconstitutional war. She points out that Biden invoked Security Council Resolution 2722 to justify his attacks, but the resolution does not authorize the U.S. airstrikes on Yemen. I also think Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) makes a valid point when she says, “If there’s time to build an international coalition, there should have been time to come to Congress.” But Biden prefers going through the United Nations, not the Congress. We understand that some of the opposition to Biden’s war on Iran is based on sympathy for Iran or hatred for Israel. But those of us who believe in the rule of law and the Constitution can oppose Biden’s war for other reasons having to do with the law and the Constitution. But why is that case not being made by so-called conservatives? The simple fact is that, on top of the wars involving aggression against Ukraine and Israel, Biden is getting the United States involved in another “forever war” with a significant part of the Muslim world. Haven’t we learned our lesson from the many “wounded warrior” commercials we see about the veterans who made it back with missing limbs and mental problems? A very interesting 2019 story from NBC News, usually a mouthpiece for the Biden regime, says the following: “Waging a presidential campaign amid rising tensions with Iran 12 years ago [2007], Joe Biden, then a senator from Delaware, had a warning for President George W. Bush should he decide to take military action without congressional authorization.” Biden declared, “I want it on the record, and I want to make it clear. If he does, I will move to impeach him.” A Biden spokesperson said in a statement to NBC News that, “An illegal war that puts at risk thousands of American lives and would bog down the U.S. military in conflict in the Middle East for years would certainly qualify as an impeachable offense.” Biden should have been impeached over what critics called his “unlawful nuclear deal between the United States and Iran.” He built up the military power of Iran before it boomeranged on him. So he exploits his own mistakes, in a classic case of bumbling and stumbling the United States into war. This fool for a president now wants Israel to agree to another Arab/Muslim state on its border, with the ability to import arms from Iran and Russia. This insanity could further spark a World War III. It appears we are already in one. A Harvard CAPS-Harris poll shows most Americans, 80 percent, support Israel over Hamas. That is well and good. But Biden is now dragging the United States into a war with Iran because his own appeasement of Iran failed. This is how wars begin. This is how, with Ukraine and Israel under attack, wars expand into a third World War. To make matters worse, Iran and its sponsor Russia probably know what the Biden Administration is doing, and are likely encouraging a new war in the Middle East. CNN acknowledged that U.S. intelligence memos and briefing materials covering topics including Ukraine, Iran and the United Kingdom were discovered in a private Biden office in 2022 from his time as vice-president. He had no legal right to these documents. Yet, Biden gets away with these crimes while “Special Counsel” Jack Smith prosecutes former president Trump for having documents he is entitled to have under the Presidential Records Act. For his part, as the campaign continues in 2024, the “War President” Joe Biden will try to look presidential. The media will do their best to prop him up. When will the Republican establishment say enough is enough? Reclaiming national sovereignty means the House of Representatives must return to its constitutional duty and exercise its powers of war and peace. Speaker Johnson should immediately initiate hearings into the impeachment of Joe Biden over his illegal war before more American lives are lost. No issue is more important.
