By Delegate Mark Fisher Violent crime is rising throughout Maryland and coming soon to your community. The reason is simple: Maryland’s 'soft on crime' laws. Jason Billingsley was arrested Wednesday night for the murder of Pava LaPere. Due to Maryland law, Billingsley was released early on "good credit” despite his conviction of first & second-degree assault, attempted rape, and violating probation. He received "good credit” - really? In addition to the murder of LaPere, Billingsley is wanted in connection with another instance of attempted murder, rape, & arson. Now, Marylanders are experiencing a rise in carjackings & thefts across Baltimore City and elsewhere. Some carjackings have turned violent, including one resulting in the death of Darrell Benner, who was shot and killed while defending his nephew. Many carjackings are related to a rise in juvenile crime. Legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly makes it almost impossible to hold juveniles accountable. Laws, such as the Child Interrogation Protection Act and the Juvenile Justice Reform Act are largely responsible. Put simply, Maryland Democrats believe that crime should be free of consequences. Rest assured, I will continue to fight against these dangerous & extremist agendas
