We Can't Trust Trump on the Drug Problem

Dear Senator Vance

I join the chorus of knowledgeable people in expressing my outrage that President Trump is backing legalization of marijuana. With your personal experience with addiction, I had hoped that Trump would  allow you personally to take the lead and resurrect sound drug policies if elected.  Obviously President Trump is deficient in his knowledge of the harms of this drug.

In his last term as President he used marijuana as a bargaining chip, and did nothing to refocus national drug policy on prevention.  He also gave Soros a free pass, the author of the ridiculous "Harm Reduction" drug policy which ignores prevention, encourages possession and use of marijuana and other drugs, and does not punish criminal behavior.  By not addressing the problem then, and promoting legalization now, Trump is complicit in destroying millions of lives and contributing to roughly 1,000 deaths a day on American soil ..... more than any war or act of terror in American history.  Trump/Vance can't be the LAW AND ORDER administration if you don't understand what is causing the problem.  In 15 years of "Harm Reduction" the potency of pot has gone from about 5% to as high as 99%.  Because of State legalization and lack of federal enforcement through three administrations, the market for marijuana has grown from less than 15 million to 55 million.  To the delight of the cartels, the vast new market created a market for other drugs, including fentanyl resulting in an increase in overdose deaths from about 105 to 300 a day.  And overdose isn't the only cause of death.  Marijuana is a major cause of mental illness and addiction.  Marijuana-induced psychosis is a factor in almost all mass murders, homicides and suicides,  which are at record levels.  Fat soluble marijuana stays in the body and brain for long periods of time, causing numerous problems particularly for young people whose brains aren't fully developed until age 25 or later.  Roughly 1 in 4 drivers are impaired, which puts every person at risk.  America is no longer safe because of marijuana.

We're screwed!  The Soros controlled Democratic Party is trying to reschedule marijuana or remove it from the CSA altogether.  The DNC Criminal Justice Platform even insanely calls for hiring 50 Assistant US Attorneys to ensure access to marijuana.  Kamala Harris, a graduate of the Soros boot camp in Sacramento led by Governor Ganja Newsom, has done all possible to legalize marijuana, even campaigning for President last time saying marijuana "gives people joy."   She will put the nail in the coffin of America as a narco-nation.  Now we obviously can't trust Trump.

I am a conservative, Christian, veteran and father of two kids who got addicted at age 12 and 14 roughly 42 years go.  I have been engaged in drug prevention for about 30 years.  On behalf of the thousands of others who have lost kids to death or addiction, I want to say emphatically that the most important responsibility of elected officials at all levels of government is to protect the people.  For 15 years there has been no attempt by the federal government, or many state governments like mine in California, to raise awareness to the devastating harms of marijuana.  Had Trump been enlightened, perhaps the outcome of his last administration could have been different.

For three administrations the federal government has betrayed the American people and caused a national security problem than kills more people and costs more money than any war or act of terror in modern history.  One estimate from Recovery Centers of America estimated the cost at $3.7 trillion, over four times the Defense Budget.  I don't know what value you put on human life.  If it's your kid, or someone you love, its priceless.  So I promise you, whoever wins the election, this will not continue without a fight.
