Dear Friend of America's Survival,
Communist Vietnam is NOT an alternative trading partner to Communist China, and we can't forget the Americans who died in the Vietnam War. At the same time, it remains a communist dictatorship. Yet US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has issued a proclamation in honor of "Vietnam National Day," September 2, celebrating the creation of communist North Vietnam. We can't forget that during that 10-year period, 1965-1975, more than 58,000 Americans sacrificed and died to save that country from communism. Both Trump (and before him, Obama) try to sell the notion that Vietnam is somehow a counter to China’s influence throughout the world. They want us to believe that China and Vietnam somehow differ on their common objective of achieving world communism at the expense of America’s standing as the leader of what used to be the Free World. Of course, both countries would gladly welcome the U.S. to help pay to accelerate the growth of their socialist economies and expand their markets. According to the State Department, Vietnam is an authoritarian state ruled by a single party, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). It explains that "human rights issues" include "unlawful or arbitrary killings by the government; torture by government agents; arbitrary arrests and detentions by the government; political prisoners; arbitrary or unlawful interference with privacy; arbitrary arrest and prosecution of individuals critical of the government, including online, and of journalists and bloggers, monitoring communications of journalists, activists, and individuals who question the state’s authority, censorship, unjustified internet restrictions such as site and account blocking, and criminal libel; substantial interference with the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of association including detention, arrest and prosecution of individuals seeking to assemble freely and form associations; significant restrictions on freedom of movement, including exit bans on activists; restrictions on political participation; corruption; and outlawing of independent trade unions." Pompeo, a self-declared Christian, said nothing about the persecution of Christians in Vietnam. Read more at the website of the Open Doors group. For America's Survival, Cliff Kincaid
