What’s Really Happening in Ukraine? By Cliff Kincaid Ukrainian-Americans have welcomed an article in The Atlantic magazine saying that Ukraine is winning the war. Thousands are dead, hundreds are being buried in mass graves, there are millions of refugees, and the country is being reduced to rubble. This is winning? Another strange perspective comes from the John Birch Society’s Alex Newman, who is claiming that Ukraine President Zelensky is somehow in cahoots with Vladimir Putin, working on behalf of globalists behind the scenes. It’s a strange form of collaboration when one nation wages an illegal and unjust war on another and innocent civilians in Ukraine continue to be slaughtered by the Russians. That only serves Russia’s interests. And Putin, as Newman knows, is a communist internationalist. Unfortunately, Newman, a good journalist, has lost touch with the anti-communism that once drove the JBS and which generated the Maidan revolution in Ukraine in 2013, leading to the toppling of hundreds of Lenin statues and the eviction of a pro-Russian president. Responsible anti-communists understand that the differences between Ukraine and Russia are very real and led to the war that Putin, a former KGB spy for 25 years, is now waging. It’s distressing to see conservatives repeating the propaganda of the Lyndon LaRouche organization, which has been attacking Zelensky relentlessly as a one-time TV personality. Ronald Reagan, a great anti-communist president, was once a Hollywood actor. The late Lyndon LaRouche, a convicted con man, was considered the intellectual author of the 9/11 truth movement because he started questioning whether Muslims had staged the attacks right after they occurred. LaRouche was one of the first to insist that the U.S. and Israeli governments were behind 9/11. The LaRouche group originally came out of the Marxist left and the Students for a Democratic Society at Columbia University, with LaRouche once describing his network in a 1976 lecture, “What Only Communists Know,” as working to bring into being “a new Marxist international.” Regarded as pro-Soviet during the Cold War, the LaRouche group came to the defense of Iraq before the first Persian Gulf War, running a piece entitled “Why we must support Iraq” and insisting that Saddam Hussein was committed to transforming the Arab world through “scientific and technological progress.” Rather than hold Putin accountable for his unprovoked war on Ukraine, the LaRouche organization has been going after the “globalists” and claims to be supporting Donald J. Trump. They sent operatives into the Texas Republican caucuses and other states in support of Trump-backed candidates. LaRouche operatives also attended the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). It looks to this observer that the LaRouche propaganda has been finding its way into the conservative media. It is absolutely necessary for Russia, the clear aggressor, to lose this war in Ukraine. But as long as Biden is president, he must be held accountable for the failure to provide the weapons that Ukraine needs to win. Nonsensical claims about Ukraine, its president, and the globalists only add to the confusion. Ignoring this failure of will to win in Ukraine, some point to Biden’s remarks before the Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting, where he said, “…there’s going to be a new world order out there, and we’ve got to lead it. And we’ve got to unite the rest of the free world in doing it.” These remarks are seen as evidence of some nefarious globalist plot behind the war in Ukraine. But Biden has been talking about a New World Order for decades and actually wrote about it in the Wall Street Journal. The problem here is not that a New World Order is being planned but that it will be imposed by a Russian regime working in cahoots with Red China. At the same time, those who think Ukraine is David in the story of David and Goliath should take a hard look at the rising death toll. The U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor-Famine-Genocide Awareness has a realistic analysis, noting, "Stalin was afraid to lose Ukraine. His weapon was the Holodomor, the man-made famine, to crush the Ukrainian national revival that had begun in the 1920’s. Putin is afraid to lose Ukraine. His answer is the invasion of Ukraine. Russia’s current policies are an extension of that genocide. The genocide has already begun. In occupied Crimean, Donetsk, and Luhansk, Ukrainians are witnessing forced transformation to Russian by intimidation, imposition of Russian schools, and issuance of Russian passports. Now that the invasion has escalated further into Ukraine, civilians are targeted at bomb shelters to further frighten and intimidate them into submission." Russia is winning. *Cliff Kincaid is president of America’s Survival, Inc. www.usasurvival.org
